Nephrology | New Clinics and Outreach
The Munson Healthcare Kidney and Hypertension Specialists offers compassionate care, innovative treatment plans, and the latest technology. The team collaborates closely with other specialists, including Obstetrics/Gynecology, Cardiology, Gastroenterology, and Hepatology to manage complex patients and has close relationships with all transplant centers in Michigan. In addition to this strong team, Munson Healthcare has initiated two new clinics within the practice to provide focused care to patients.
Kidney Stone Clinic
Munson Healthcare has formed a Kidney Stone Clinic with the goal of diet and medication management to prevent further kidney stones. This clinic is an opportunity for our specialists to see more patients for a comprehensive metabolic work-up. This new clinic shortens the waitlist and allows more time for patient education and treatment planning.
Advanced Chronic Kidney Disease Clinic
This specialized clinic was built with the goal of comprehensive education opportunities and interactive discussions with a multidisciplinary team to encourage an easier transition to dialysis or palliative care. The multidisciplinary team includes physicians, nurse practitioners, dieticians, social workers, support staff, radiology department, general surgeons, vascular surgeons, and more.

The new centralized MHC Patient Transfer and Placement Center is live in all eight Munson Healthcare hospitals: Cadillac Hospital, Charlevoix Hospital, Grayling Hospital, Kalkaska Memorial Health Center, Manistee Hospital, Munson Medical Center, Otsego Memorial Hospital, and Paul Oliver Memorial Hospital.
To transfer a patient in or out of a Munson Healthcare hospital, call 231-392-0777.
REMINDERS
Informed Consent Forms | New Process Started March 1
Prior to performing an invasive procedure at MHC, the patient and the provider must both sign the new informed consent form at the time of the informed consent discussion. The form should be faxed to the hospital with the other pre-operative paperwork. Please note: if the invasive procedure is done in the office, please follow your established workflow for adding consent to the patient’s medical record.
This new procedure supports patients in medical decision making by having a clear understanding of the risks, benefits, and alternatives prior to a procedure while also protecting providers from concerns regarding informed consent by providing clear documentation of agreement between the provider and the patient. Consents are now valid for 90 days (was previously 30 days).

No Longer Using Personal Email Accounts for MHC Credentialed Providers
Effective March 1, personal email accounts (e.g., Gmail, Yahoo, Hotmail, Charter, etc.) are no longer used for any hospital-related communications for MHC Credentialed Providers.
Per MHC Bylaws, all providers are required to maintain and regularly monitor a hospital-based email account (mhc.net). MHC uses Outlook for hospital email. Please remind your provider to regularly check their MHC.net email address.
For questions on how to access their MHC Outlook email account, providers can call the Help Desk at 231-935-6053. Please note: This policy does NOT impact practice staff.
CMS Auditing MIPS Eligible Providers
Starting in January 2023, CMS has contracted with Guidehouse to conduct audits of Merit-Based Payment System (MIPS) eligible providers to confirm the accuracy and completeness of reported results. If contacted by Guidehouse, a provider is required to provide all requested data within 45 days or risk a payment adjustment. MIPS data validation requests will be emailed to providers from MIPS_DVA@guidehouse.com.
