Saving Two Lives at Once

Time is critical during a stroke – so when two stroke patients arrived within just five minutes of each other, both were taken straight to the Artis Icono Bi-plane Imaging Suite at Munson Medical Center, where Gary Rajah, MD, and David Rosenbaum-HaLevi, MD, were already in position. Both procedures were performed in under 20 minutes.

“For a community our size, we are very fortunate to have a team and the technology to provide care for the most complex stroke cases, and in occurrences like this one, multiple cases at the same time,” said Dr. Rajah, Endovascular/Cerebrovascular Neurosurgeon and Witham Family Comprehensive Stroke Center Surgical Director. “Every day at Munson Medical Center and each of our facilities across Northern Michigan, we are saving lives, preserving quality of life, and remain committed to continually raising the level of care we provide our patients.”

Street Medicine Program Nationally Recognized

Recently, Munson Healthcare was among five hospitals in the nation to receive the Dick Davidson NOVA Award by the American Hospital Association (AHA) for our Street Medicine program, a collaboration with Traverse Health Clinic and Goodwill Northern Michigan that has provided care to more than 1,000 people experiencing homelessness in the Traverse City area.

“We are grateful for this recognition from the AHA because it is so important to raise awareness about the 650,000 plus people experiencing homelessness in this country,” said family medicine physician Dr. David Klee, Associate Program Director for Munson Family Medicine Residency Program. “While most street medicine occurs in densely populated urban areas, there is need in rural areas as well, and we hope this program will help provide a model for other smaller communities like our own.”
