An Update from Munson Healthcare
Sleep Services

A sufficient amount of normal sleep is part of optimal cardiovascular, neuropsychiatric, and metabolic function. Good sleep also improves quality of life measures and driving safety.

Munson Sleep Disorders Centers (MSDC) across northern Michigan and Munson Healthcare Pulmonary and Critical Care (MPCC) provides comprehensive care for simple to complex sleep disorders. Patients receiving care from MSDC and MPCC can expect:

  • Full consultation at an American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM) accredited Sleep Disorder Center prior to diagnostic testing
  • Selection of the best type of sleep study to guide the appropriate treatment
  • Continuity of care

To be a patient, please note MSDC and MPCC:

  • Will not be able to accept an isolated home sleep apnea test (HSAT) performed outside their offices.
  • Patients are required to receive a sleep test from either MSDC or MPCC.
    • If a patient had an outside HSAT performed, they may need repeat testing under MSDC or MPCC care. This could result in an out-of-pocket cost.

Thank you for your continued support of our sleep medicine line and we look forward to the improved delivery of an AASM standard of care to your sleep patients. If you have any questions or specific concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Getting To Know... Your Providers!

A provider profile is one of the first resources a patient turns to when trying to find a new primary care physician, specialist, or care facility. That is why Munson Healthcare is working towards creating a robust Find a Doctor website as a healthcare resource for our communities.

If your practice has a provider who is credentialed on the medical staff of a Munson Healthcare hospital, we encourage you to go to their profile on the Find a Doctor site to make sure they have an updated bio and headshot.

  • If an updated bio is needed, please have the provider complete this bio request form or email an existing bio to physicianliaison@mhc.net.

    • A draft bio will be sent to the email provided for review and approval.
    • An updated or new bio may take a few weeks depending on the number of responses received.
  • If the provider has an updated headshot or you would like to schedule a new headshot photo, please email physicianliaison@mhc.net.

Principals of Motivational Interviewing Series: Support Self-Efficacy

"Whether you think you can or you think you can't, you're right." - Henry Ford

Supporting self-efficacy is assisting the patient in believing they are capable of change. Until a patient believes they can achieve their goals they will never attempt to fulfill them. One way for a clinician to help booster a patient's self-efficacy early on is through quick wins. This means helping the patient set very small, achievable goals. By achieving quick wins, the patient's confidence will grow. The more confidence they have the more progress they make. It is a happy, upward spiral. Remember, all of the motivational interviewing principals are designed to work together to achieve the best outcome - express empathy, develop discrepancy, roll with resistance, and support self-efficacy.
