Welcome to the Premiere Issue of Practice Pro!

To help keep practice managers and practice professionals informed on topics of interest to you, we are relaunching our Practice Pro newsletter in a digital format for the Munson Healthcare system. Some of you may recall that we previously had a printed Practice Pro that was mailed to practices in Antrim, Benzie, Grand Traverse, Kalkaska, and Leelanau Counties from 2006 - 2017.

Last fall we surveyed practice managers to see if a newsletter would be helpful to you and the response was a resounding "YES!" The redesigned Practice Pro will arrive in your email box monthly (2nd week of the month) with news pertaining to practices that is different than the Medical Staff News that you're now receiving weekly from Pulse@mhc.net. If you no longer wish to receive communications from Munson Healthcare, or have a new email, please update your email subscription using the link in the footer.

Please feel free to share this newsletter with your providers and staff.

To kick off the new Practice Pro, we wanted to start by introducing you to our Physician Liaison team: Renae, Evan, Samantha, and Barb. Our Physician Liaisons are your point of contact for questions and feedback relating to the Munson Healthcare system. They can be reached at physicianliaison@mhc.net or by contacting each directly.

COVID CORNER

COVID Vaccine Allocation to Practices:
A Year in Reflection

COVID-19 vaccines first became available in December 2020, just 9 months after the pandemic reached northern Michigan. As a vaccine champion, Munson Healthcare (MHC) partnered with both employed and independent regional practices to facilitate getting shots in arms once distribution was opened at the community level.

To support this initiative, MHC launched a collaborative multidisciplinary team to oversee redistributing the vaccines that Munson Healthcare had been allocated to primary care practices. MHC started with two pilot offices: Munson Family Practice Center and Munson Healthcare Cadillac Primary Care. The team then worked quickly with additional interested practices, sharing standard work and learnings from the pilot practices so that each additional practice wasn’t starting on its own from scratch.

RESOURCES

Provider Moves
The Provider Moves webpage that lists provider moves across the Munson Healthcare system has been updated for April, including new, location changes, retirees, providers no longer on staff (or practicing), and other updates (e.g., name changes, practice moves, new phone and fax numbers).

REMINDER

Please Notify Munson Healthcare When Either a Provider or Employee Is Leaving Your Practice

PROVIDERS
Please notify Munson Healthcare when a provider is planning to leave your practice, such as for retirement, relocation, termination, or leave of absence. This allows us to ensure that all access to Munson Healthcare systems is removed as well as support the transition of care for patients.

A reminder that all outstanding orders will need to be re-assigned to next care provider as this ensures test results are distributed. If there is NOT a new provider designated, this will result in tests being canceled.

Regional Medical Staff Office Contacts:

Provider onboarding and offboarding resources for practices, including forms and checklists, are available here.

EMPLOYEES
It is a reportable HIPAA data breach if a former employee accesses electronic Protected Health Information (ePHI). Therefore it is important to remove all computer access when an employee leaves your practice.

When a staff member leaves your office who has access to the Munson Healthcare system (e.g., PowerChart, Physician Web Scheduler, Outlook, etc.), please notify us ASAP by one of the following methods:

  • Call Help Desk at 231-935-6053
  • Complete Computer System Access Request Form (PDF, Word) and fax to 231-935-3215

EDUCATION

Social Media Impacts on Pediatric Mental Health
In the latest episode of our Munson Med Talks podcast, host Dr. Joe Santangelo, a pediatrician who is Munson Healthcare's Chief Quality and Safety Officer, talks with Dr. Stason Vandegrift, pediatrician practicing in Grayling, about how social media is affecting the pediatric population.

They discuss the relationship between social media and pediatric mental health, and the role of the provider in promoting safe and effective us of social media for the pediatric population. Dr. Vandegrift references a Family Media Use Plan in the episode.

Education Spotlight: Get to Know eeds™

Did you know Munson Healthcare CME provides free CME tracking accounts to all credentialed providers? Since January of 2021, MHC CME has used an online, cloud-based CE tracking system, called eeds™ (electronic education documentation system), to award credits to providers for all MHC CME activities. eeds™ is a completely paperless system and features:

  • Instant access to CME transcripts and certificates
  • Full library of On-Demand CME courses (including topics required for re-licensure – i.e., Pain and Symptom Management, Medical Ethics, etc.)
  • Self-reporting of non-MHC credits

Practice Managers may assist providers with self-reporting non-MHC CME credit and MOC credits, by uploading information about the activity (e.g., date, time, location) and any documents and certificates showing proof of credit. This allows providers to take full advantage of eeds™ as a one-stop shop for continuing education and certification requirements.

Check out these step-by-step instructions for self-reporting credit and visit munsonhealthcare.org/CME for more resources. The MHC CME department is always here to help. If you have any questions about CME credits, eeds™, or licensure requirements, please reach out to cme@mhc.net.
