Target Audience and Goal Statement

This activity is intended for clinicians who work in the specialties of critical care medicine, infectious disease, emergency medicine, hospital medicine, and pulmonary medicine, as well as pharmacists and nurses.

The goal of this activity is that learners will be better able to make a timely and accurate diagnosis for patients with pneumonia or sepsis.

Upon completion of this activity, participants will:

  • Explore the role of multiplex panel testing in the management of critical care patients
  • Recognize key characteristics of available multiplex panel testing
  • Discuss emerging clinical evidence for the use of biomarkers in critical care patients
  • Use rapid diagnostic tests in patients with suspected pneumonia or sepsis
